Our Mandate

The Jewish Museum and Archives of British Columbia is a place for everyone: Researchers, casual visitors, families, students, members of the Jewish community, and the general public. The Museum’s exhibits will guide visitors through the history of British Columbia’s Jewish communities, and draw insights into the development of the Province of British Columbia in the process.

The primary mandate of the Jewish Museum and Archives of British Columbia, as governed by the Jewish Historical Society of British Columbia is to collect, preserve and make available for research, the history of the Jewish people of British Columbia. The Museum fulfills this mandate through lectures, publications, collecting audiovisual material, exhibits, and recording oral histories from communities around the province.

The Jewish Historical Society of BC works continuously to provide public resources such as the Jewish Museum and Archives of BC to promote awareness of the vital role history plays in individuals’ lives. Through the dedicated efforts of many, the Society has managed to preserve what would otherwise have been lost to present and future generations.
