The son of Russian immigrants, Bernard Reed was born in Vancouver and grew up in Vancouver’s East End neighbourhood. He attended the first Hebrew School in Vancouver from 1924-1935. A strong advocate for the study of Hebrew, Bernard Reed formed a Ivria Club (only Hebrew allowed) and published a Hebrew magazine (Lvria) for the Vancouver community. Reed later served on the Board of Directors of Vancouver Talmud Torah in the 1950s.
