Max's father Abraham Grossman owned the Hub, Vancouver's first men's wear store. Max was a barrister and was the first Jew in Vncouver to be honoured as a King's Counsel. He was very involved in community affairs and was president of B'nai B'rith Samuel Lodge in 1915, 1918 and again in 1924. He was the first president of the Vancouver Hebrew School and a key mover in the building of the first Jewish Community Centre. However, his greatest contribution to the Jewish community in Vancouver was as Chairman and driving force for the building of the Schara Tzedeck synagog
