Portrait of Judge Samuel David Shultz, First Jewish Judge in Canada. Shultz practiced law in Nelson, Victoria and Vancouver. At the time this photo was taken he was not yet a judge but a barrister.
Lumley Franklin (1808 – 3 August 1873), was the 2nd mayor of Victoria, British Columbia.
Henry Nathan, Jr. was the first Jewish Canadian to be elected to the House of Commons. Nathan was one of two MPs elected to represent the British Columbia riding of Victoria in the Canadian general election of 1872.
Max's father Abraham Grossman owned the Hub, Vancouver's first men's wear store. Max was a barrister and was the first Jew in Vncouver to be honoured as a King's Counsel. He was very involved in community affairs and was president of B'nai B'rith Samuel Lodge in 1915, 1918 and again in 1924. He was the first president of the Vancouver Hebrew School and a key mover in the building of the first Jewish Community Centre. However, his greatest contribution to the Jewish community in Vancouver was as Chairman and driving force for the building of the Schara Tzedeck synagog
