He was the owner of the "first and only steam motor car in Lynn Valley", cites Cyril E. Leonoff in his book Pioneers, Pedlars and Prayer Shawls (1978). The building in the background was erected by Brier at the corner of Mountain Highway and Lynn Valley Road.
